  • South America has a rich world of wild animals! A large number of rare and wonderful species of fauna belongs to it. For example, there are so interesting mammals as sloths and armadillos in the forests; the Andes mountains inhabitants are vicuña and alpaca, who belongs to the family of camelids. American ostrich or big running birds common rhea (nandou) have own home which are Pampa steppes. Cloud of seals and penguins occupy the coldest southern outskirts. The Galapagos Islands situated in the Pacific Ocean, are famous for the rarest representatives of the animal world such as river giant tortoises. They are the largest species of the tortoise family. Also endemic species are Lake Titicaca frog (Telmatobius coleus) and wingless great crested grebe; it possible to find them no more than in South America. Only there a Pudu deer, which resembles other one very little, can be discovered. It is a rare animal listed in the Red Book, this endemical deer occupies only the island Chilos and southern part of Chile close to the sea.

    Wild animals of South America are well to survive and adapted for living in inclement conditions of subequatorial forests, savannas and highlands. Besides, they often have to endure tropical showers. Possibly, thanks to the diversity of climatic zones this amazing fauna of South America has set up.
